Transfer News: Hull City ‘expected’ to sign free agent over the coming days, reporter says

Hull City are ‘expected’ to announce the signing of Joao Pedro over the coming days, according to HullLive reporter Barry Cooper on X.

Hull City are poised to seal a free transfer deal for the attacker following his exit from Fenerbahce. They are back in Championship action this weekend against Cardiff City at home following their 3-1 away win at Stoke City last time out.

Joao Pedro, 32, saw his contract with his previous club expire this past summer and he has since been weighing up his options as a free agent.

In this latest update regarding the Tigers’ pursuit of him, journalist Cooper has said on X that he is still on course to move to East Yorkshire, despite talk of a move going quiet over recent days.

If his move does get completed, he will give Tim Walter more competition and depth up top along with Chris Bedia and Mason Burstow.

Hull City expected to land striker

Joao Pedro spent last year out on loan at Gremio in the Brazilian top flight and scored three goals in 43 games.

He moved over to Europe for the first time in 2010 from Atletico Mineiro and first joined Palermo. The Brazil-born man was a teammate of ex-Tigers favourite Abel Hernandez.

The once-capped Italy international then went on to have spells at Vitória de Guimarães, Penarol, Santos and Estoril.

Cagliari signed him in 2014 and he went on to become a key player for the Serie A side, scoring 87 goals in 271 games in all competitions.

That form earned him a move to Fenerbahce in 2022 and he found the net on five occasions in 28 outings for the Turkish Super Lig club before being loaned out to Gremio.

What now?

A move to Hull City would give Joao Pedro a fresh start and a chance to show what he can do in England.

The Tigers missed out on bringing in another forward in the last transfer window so he would give them something different up top.

They will be relieved to have won their first game of the campaign against Stoke City last time out as they look to build momentum now.
