Big demand made of Hull City as challenge is set on Saturday against the Bluebirds-Opinion

The Tigers now have a home game to come on Saturday against the Bluebirds

Former Hull City star Jake Livermore has challenged his old club to use their impressive 3-1 win at Stoke City on Friday night as a springboard to really get their season going.

City had been without a win since April and pressure was beginning to build on new boss Tim Walter after back-to-back defeats to compound a poor start to the season, and with the Tigers a goal down at the break in the Potteries, it looked like things could go from bad to worse.

A sparkling second half display inspired by Kasey Palmer, Liam Millar and Regan Slater saw City come from a goal down to score three times in 16 minutes including two in two to notch their first victory of the season and lift them out of the bottom three.

Livermore hopes, with a home clash against Cardiff City on Saturday before successive away trips to QPR and Norwich City before the international to come, his old club can build on that success in Stoke and start to move up the table.

“Hopefully, that’s the turning point,” he told Sky Sports. “I know we’re only six games in but hopefully, that’s the turning point for Hull City. Not only is it a big win for the three points, but to have that confidence in what they’re trying to build and what they believe in.

“I think they’ll gain confidence all around. The fans have been so patient throughout the years since they have dropped down into the second tier and they want to believe, get behind the team and get behind something and the structure, and hopefully, they can kick on from here.”

Match Preview | Hull City vs. Cardiff City

Cardiff City travel to Hull City’s MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The fixture will take place on September 28th, with a kick-off time of 3pm.

Hull City’s manager is Tim Walter, who was appointed back in May on a three-year deal.

His coaching career began with German side Karlsruher SC, where he was the assistant of Markus Kauczinski in their U19s team.

He went on to have coaching roles of the U15s, U17s and U19s, prior to being appointed manager of Bayern Munich’s reserve team in 2017.

Continuing his rise, Walter was named manager of Holstein Kiel, leading the club to an impressive sixth-place finish in the second tier, which earned him a move to Stuttgart in June 2019.

He was sacked by Die Roten in the December of that year despite being third in the table and went on to manage Hamburger SV after more than a year without the club.

During his time at Hamburger, the side lost out in the Play-Offs in both of his first two seasons.

Since moving to Hull City, the Tigers have struggled for form, winning just once from seven matches in all competitions.
