An unimpeachable source of pop wisdom, Sir Paul has been there, and done that. His 2022 set at Glastonbury lives long in the memory, blending smash hits from across the generations with a slew of stellar guest stars.

Dave Grohl popped up for one of his first public appearances after the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins, while Bruce Springsteen also duetted with the Beatles legend. so, what enabled Paul McCartney to pull off such an extravaganza? As it turns out, practice… and planning Chatting to World At One on BBC Radio 4, the songwriter said: “You don’t get an athlete just coming into the Olympics not having done a few races beforehand. The idea is by the time I get to Glastonbury it’ll just be just like another gig. But of course it won’t be, because it’s very special.”

Paul McCartney road-tested the set with a special intimate show in Frome – hitting the 600 capacity Cheese & Grain venue in Somerset. The no-phones concert enabled the songwriter to run through his headline spot, telling the crowd: “Good evening, Frome. Why am I getting a feeling we are going to have some fun? We’ve got some old songs and some new songs and some in-between.”

This year’s headliners are Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA, with Shania Twain in the legends slot. Will they live up to the high standards set by Paul McCartney? Guess we’ll find out soon – stay tuned for on-site updates.
