Texas Longhorns: Quinn Ewers Lands With Shocking Team In Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft

The Texas Longhorns are the number one ranked team in the country entering their Week 4 matchup against the UL-Monroe Warhawks.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers will be sidelined with an oblique/abdominal injury for this week and we will see if he gets his starting job back once he is healthy.

Arch Manning will start this week in his place. Ewers before he got hurt was projected to be a Heisman Trophy candidate and also one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

CBS Sports Has Texas Longhorns Quarterback Quinn Ewers Slipping To the New York Jets In the 2025 NFL Draft

CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso created his latest NFL Mock Draft for 2025. A lot of people over the last couple of weeks had Ewers as one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead, Trapasso has Quinn Ewers slipping to the 23rd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the New York Jets. Chris Trapasso said:

“The Jets plan for the future after Aaron Rodgers and allow him to be a mentor to the super-talented yet somewhat raw Ewers, who can take over after the 2025 season. Clear redshirt situation.”

Before he got hurt, Ewers completed 73.4% of his passes for 691 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. Ewers is not much of a runner as he has rushed for only one yard on six carries this season. There is a chance that he could be back on the field quickly and get his stock back up for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The New York Jets no doubt would be an interesting landing spot for the former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback. Ewers is 21 years old and is in his junior season with the Texas Longhorns.

Aaron Rodgers Isn’t Getting Younger

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is 40 years old and will turn 41 years old during the season. Tyrod Taylor is the current Jets backup quarterback and he is not the long-term answer for the New York Jets either. Zach Wilson did not work out as planned for the Jets.

Quinn Ewers of the Texas Longhorns would be a good pick for them. If he were to slip that far in the 2025 NFL Draft, there is no doubt that the Jets would trip over themselves. There is a lot of time between now and the NFL Draft where Ewers could regain his stock, but going to the Jets would be a much better place than going to the Carolina Panthers.
