With 3:13 remaining in regulation, Stanford faced its first deficit of the entire game at 24-23. What did head coach Troy Taylor tell his offense?

Taylor shared in his postgame press conference, “I said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna drive down, we’re gonna spot the ball in the middle of the field, and we’re gonna kick a field goal and get out of here.’ And obviously we were able to do that. (Kicker) Emmet (Kenney) has been incredible.”

Kenney made the kick from 39 yards out on the final play of regulation for a 26-24 walk-off win. In order to setup the kick, Stanford had to convert fourth-and-9 with 37 seconds left from Syracuse’s 45-yard-line.

We tried to isolate Elic,” Taylor said. “If they went on-on-one, our guys gotta be able to beat their guys. … We talked about if it’s zone, we have a concept — if it’s man with Elic, he’s gotta win.”With the communication I was actually able to talk to Ashton on the headset. We got out there so early and saw the coverage. And I’m like, ‘You gotta go to Elic.’ He did a good job holding the free safety with his eyes and throwing a great ball. And Elic created a lot of separation and made the play.
