2 sources claim player ‘heading to England’ to join Hull City – Will sign 2-year deal with Tigers

On Wednesday, journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported Hull City have started formal talks to sign João Pedro. He also stated the Championship side should make progress later that day.

The striker has been without a club since Fenerbahçe released him in August. This allows Hull City to sign him outside the transfer window.

Sportitalia now backs up Hull City’s interest and adds that the 32-year-old is ‘heading to England’.

This would indicate the two parties have made progress, after yesterday’s talks.

It’s claimed the frontman would be close to joining Tim Walter’s side. He’s expected to sign a one-year deal at Hull City, with an option for another year.
Pedro spent eight years at Cagliari between 2014 and 2022. He had an opportunity to return to Italy as Salernitana wanted to sign him.

Hull City are in talks to sign attacker Joao Pedro following his exit from Fenerbahce, according to a report by HullLive.
Hull City have already delved into the free agent market recently to land midfielder Steven Alzate after he left Brighton and Hove Albion. They still have another place left in their 25-man squad list and are trying to bring in a new forward now to compete at the top end of the pitch with Union Berlin loanee Chris Bedia and Mason Burstow.

Pedro, 32, cut ties with Fenerbahce at the end of last season and has since been weighing up his options. His contract with the Turkish Super Lig giants officially expired in late June and they made the decision to part ways with him.

In this latest update regarding his situation, HullLive report the Tigers are in negotiations with him now. They face Stoke City away on Friday night.

Who is Joao Pedro?

Joao Pedro was born in Brazil and represented the country of his birth at Under-17 level.

He then switched to Italy and made his first and only cap back in 2022 against North Macedonia under Roberto Mancini.

He can play as either a striker or in attacking midfielder role.

Where did he start?

Joao Pedro rose up through the academy ranks at Atlético Mineiro and represented them at various different youth levels.

He went on to play 13 games for their first-team before moving over to Europe as a youngster for the first time in 2010 when Palermo came calling.

Former Hull City player Abel Hernandez was a teammate of his at the Stadio comunale Renzo Barbera.

Cagliari favourite

Joao Pedro went on to have spells at Vitória de Guimarães, Peñarol, Santos and Estoril before linking up with Cagliari.

It was with the Italian outfit where he really found his shooting boots and he became a key player for the Sardinia outfit.

He scored 86 goals in 271 appearances for them in all competitions and spent seven of his eight years there in Serie A. He also became their captain in 2020.

Fenerbahce spell

Fenerbahce lured him over to Turkey in 2022 and he found the net on five occasions in 28 matches during his time in Istanbul.

He was loaned out to Gremio in Brazil over recent times but has found himself available over recent times.

What would he offer to Hull City?

Joao Pedro would give Hull City more competition and depth in attack. They are crying out for another option and that is all he would be.

The Tigers need someone to battle it out with Bedia and Burstow and he could plug that gap well on a short-term basis.
