Absence of- Hull City new boy Carl Rushworth explained by reporter ahead of Stoke City trip

Hull City goalkeeper Carl Rushworth missed their game against Sheffield United last time out with an ‘unspecified bruise’, as per HullLive reporter Baz Cooper.

Hull City signed the highly-rated stopper on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion before the deadline in the last transfer window.

Rushworth, 23, wasn’t in the squad against the Blades but could return this Friday away at Stoke City as he awaits his debut for the Tigers under Tim Walter.

In this latest update regarding his situation, journalist Cooper has said on the latest episode of the 1904 Club Podcast: “He picked up an unspecified bruise but Walter thinks he’ll be back for Friday night. I, like you, expected Rushworth to come in (against Sheffield United last time out).”

He added: “Rushworth is expected to be back for the weekend but again, I don’t see him bringing him in. I think he’ll stick with (Ivor) Pandur.”

Hull City goalkeeper latest

Hull City have five goalkeepers on their books right now in Rushworth, Ivor Pandur, Anthony Racioppi, Timothee Lo-Tutala and Harvey Cartwright, although the latter two are younger options.

The Tigers’ manager has a big decision to make on who to have as his number one, with Pandur getting the nod so far.

They didn’t sign Rushworth to sit on the bench though and he will be looking to become their first choice over the coming weeks and months.

The former Huddersfield Town and FC Halifax Town man moved down south in 2019 when Brighton came calling.

He has never made a senior appearance for the Premier League side but has gained plenty of experience out on loan from the AMEX Stadium at Worthing, Walsall, Lincoln City and Swansea City.

Rushworth has progressed up a level season after season and was a hit with the Swans in the last campaign during his time in South Wales.

The ex-England youth international played all 46 league games for the Welsh outfit before heading back to his parent club for pre-season.

His future with the Seagulls was up in the air this summer and he ended up linking up with Hull City on deadline day.

What now?

Rushworth will be eager to get into the squad for the Tigers’ match against Stoke City this Friday.

Walter need to pick between him and Pandur, who hasn’t been that bad recently following a tough spell during their friendly games.

Hull City are yet to win this term and need to pick up three points or pressure could start to mount on their boss already.

They were beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield United last time out and have lost their last two on the spin.

The East Yorkshire outfit have three points on the board so far and are in the relegation zone.
