Jacques Villeneuve believes that the absence of Adrian Newey’s presence in the Red Bull garage has been ‘really detrimental’ to Max Verstappen’s title chances. Since the 65-year-old’s departure was confirmed, the reigning champions’ form has taken a major hit.

Red Bull head into the Azerbaijan Grand Prix without a win in the last six races, and the reigning champions have collected just two podiums during that period. The impact of that drop-off has been disastrous in their bid for both the Drivers’ Championship and Constructors’ Championship.

Without the legendary aerodynamicist’s input, Red Bull have struggled to get on top of the issues facing the RB20. In a bid to recover some performance, multiple changes and upgrade packages have come and gone, but the Milton Keynes-based team are still losing ground to McLaren.

In a letter to the Commons today, the Modernisation Committee also said it will set out to agree on a “set of core principles that will underpin how the committee will conduct its work”.

It will work on a cross-party basis, with its membership being drawn from a number of parties and a route for small parties such as Reform UK to feed in their views.
