Tight – Angus Kinnear offers update on Leeds United’s PSR standpoint amid £143m reveal

Leeds United’s summer window was dominated by major sales sanctioned as a result of release clauses being triggered, but it has the club in a better position on PSR.

The 49ers have been forced into a real balancing act since they took over from Andrea Radrizzani in the summer of 2023, knowing that finances weren’t in a great position after relegation.

However, after a year in the Championship with a trimmed wage bill and less outlay, the club still have the cloud of PSR hanging overhead, as does every club.

How much did Leeds make from player sales?

Archie Gray’s exit was the tip of the iceberg as he left the club for £40million around the beginning of July to Tottenham, followed by several more minor and major outgoings.

Marc Roca, Diego Llorente, Charlie Cresswell, and Glen Kamara all left for clubs on the continent, then followed by Crysencio Summerville’s £25million West Ham move, and Georginio Rutter’s £40million Brighton transfer.

All in, Leeds recouped around £123.7m for these sales, but the expedited sale of Luis Sinisterra to Bournemouth that took place in February means Leeds have actually made £143.7million from sales in 2024 alone.

Angus Kinnear delivers Leeds United PSR update

Angus Kinnear was present for August’s Supporters Advisory Board meeting, of which the minutes have beeb published by the club since.

In that, the club CEO shared that Leeds are compliant with PSR right now, having made a considerable amount from player sales:

“AK says it is tight because of Premier League relegations, but the club will be compliant with PSR rules.“

Leeds should have made massive dent in outstanding £190m transfer fees

When Leeds’ accounts were published earlier this year, an alarming £190million “transfer fees owed” column stood out.

However, with this money coming in from the sales, you would imagine the 49ers are some way towards writing off that considerable cash flow headache.

It doesn’t let the owners totally off the hook though that we’re compliant with PSR and not in the mire, knowing that the money is there to spend on signings as well, and who we missed out on makes it more noticeable in attacking midfield.

Legal expert addresses Leicester City PSR fall-out ahead of EFL meeting as Leeds United watch on

Leicester City escaped a points deduction for breaching the Premier League’s PSR regulations

An urgent rewriting of Premier League and EFL rules is much more likely than a renewed bid by either competition to charge Leicester over their 2022-23 accounts, a legal expert has said.

Last week an appeal board found an independent commission did not have jurisdiction to consider an alleged breach of Premier League profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) by Leicester, a decision which left the Premier League “surprised and disappointed”.
