ESPN: 3 key injured Texas players going into UTSA

Texas one main injury update and two more on the injury report for Week 3 vs. UTSA at DKR.

Entering Week 3 against the UTSA Roadrunners, No. 2 Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian had a couple of notable injury updates. Outside of the season-ending running back injuries from fall practice last month, Texas remains pretty healthy coming out of the big double-digit Week 2 victory on the road in Ann Arbor over the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines.

Texas football injury updates entering Week 3

Texas handily defeated Michigan at the Big House in Ann Arbor last weekend, by a score of 31-12. The Longhorns controlled the tempo and set the physical tone in the trenches on both sides of the ball against the defending National Champion Michigan, which was a surprise to some.

But anyone who knows the returning experience and strength Texas has this year along the offensive line among the starters and the depth along the interior defensive line rotation should know what the Longhorns are capable of in terms of controlling the line of scrimmage.

Texas has to keep its focus sharp and steady entering Week 3 to make sure they take care of business against UTSA this coming weekend at DKR. Here’s a look at three key injured players for the Longhorns entering Week 3 at home against UTSA on Sep. 14.

Jaydon Blue, RB (Lower-body)

Junior running back Jaydon Blue suffered a lower-body injury when he was limping off the field after a play in the first half against Michigan last weekend. Blue was taken to the medical tent and was kept on the sideline for a couple of drives for the Longhorns.

But Blue returned to the field in the second half for the Longhorns where he got four more carries and one target in the receiving game. His one target out of the backfield resulted in a reception for seven yards and a touchdown.

He finished up the game with 59 total yards from scrimmage on 15 touches, with one total touchdown.

Blue updated his injury status after the game on Saturday, saying that “I’ll be alright” and that he “just got rolled up on”.

“I just got rolled up on after the play, I was a little in shock in the moment, but once I got to the sideline, I was able to settle down and the pain kind of wore off as the game went on, so I’m good now.”

Inside Texas reports that Blue was seen in a walking boot postgame after the win over Michigan last weekend.

Christian Clark, RB (Achilles)
Christian Clark is out for the entire 2024 season after he suffered a torn Achilles on a non-contact play during fall practice.

CJ Baxter Jr., RB (Knee)
Sophomore CJ Baxter Jr. is out for the 2024 season after suffering a torn ligament in his knee during fall practice.
