Stoke City- striker Niall Ennis linked with Wrexham move on transfer deadline day

Wrexham have failed with a late bid to sign highly-rated Sheffield United striker Louie Marsh.

Phil Parkinson achieved his main goal on deadline day, which was to sign a new striker, as Modou Faal joined Wrexham on a permanent deal from West Bromwich Albion.

Faal, who starred on loan at Doncaster Rovers and Walsall last season, has signed a three-year contract at the Racecourse Ground.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds don’t plan on stopping there either as Wrexham have enquired about Stoke City striker Niall Ennis.

The 25-year-old, previously of Plymouth Argyle, only signed for the Potters in February and looks unlikely to join the Welsh outfit on deadline day, especially after the signing of Faal.

Ennis isn’t the only player who has been on Wrexham’s radar in the latter stages of the window, as Sheffield United youngster Louie Marsh was targeted on loan.

Wrexham fail in move to sign Sheffield United starlet Louie Marsh

The Wrexham Insider can exclusively reveal that Wrexham were one of a host of League One clubs to make a move for Sheffield United’s Louie Marsh.

But the Blades have decided to keep the highly-rated forward. Chris Wilder is expected to now use the England Under-20 international as the season goes on.

Marsh scored his first senior goal for Sheffield United in their 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Wrexham earlier this month and will have perhaps impressed Parkinson.

The 2004-born striker then played ninety minutes in the second round as Wilder’s men suffered a 1-0 defeat against Barnsley.

Marsh is highly rated by the hierarchy at Bramall Lane and it is telling that the United boss sees the youngster playing a key part in his first-team plans this term.

Wrexham didn’t need to sign Louie Marsh

Wrexham have achieved previous success when dipping into the loan market. Last season, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was a revelation after joining from Arsenal, and he made the move permanent this summer.

But, the striker is an area where the Reds are stacked for options and the addition of Faal only adds to that. Parkinson currently has eight strikers on his roster, meaning only three to four names make the match-day squad.

Adding Marsh to the equation, or even Ennis, would be overkill for Wrexham, who can be pleased with the forward options they currently have.

Wrexham travel to Peterborough this weekend looking to extend their unbeaten run in League One to four matches.
