Breaking: Hull City dealt blow in pursuit of European striker

Hull City are interested in Genk striker Andi Zeqiri but the player’s isn’t keen on the move, according to Swiss news outlet 4-4-2.

Hull City have looked into the possibility of luring the attacker over to England before the end of the transfer window. They have until the deadline on Friday to bring in more new faces to bolster their ranks.

Zeqiri, 25, is a Switzerland international with 11 caps under his belt and was on the books at Brighton and Hove Albion from 2020 to 2023. He has been with Genk since September last year and still has another couple of years left on his contract with the Belgian Pro League outfit, with the club holding the option of a further 12 months on top of that.

As per 4-4-2, the player has been on the ‘shortlist’ of the Tigers as they eye some reinforcements to their squad. However, he doesn’t want to drop into the Championship so Tim Walter’s side will need to look elsewhere for targets at the top end of the pitch.

Hull City striker latest

Hull City could have seen Zeqiri as someone to boost their striking department.

There are plenty of other options they could go for instead though between now and the end of the window.

The Lausanne-born man started out at Stade Lausanne Ouchy before joining Lausanne-Sport as a youngster in 2011.

He was loaned out to Juventus as a teenager before heading back home.

Zeqiri broke into the first-team in 2015 at the age of just 16 and went on to score 35 goals in 104 outings in all competitions before Brighton swooped in.

He wasn’t able to make the impact he wanted to in Sussex though and found the net only once in 13 matches, as well as being loaned out to Augsburg and FC Basel during his time at the AMEX Stadium.

Genk snapped him up last year and he has since scored nine goals in 39 games but his future is up in the air.

What next for Hull City target?

Although Hull City are an ambitious club who have plans to reach the Premier League again in the future, that isn’t enough for them to persuade Zeqiri to join them at this stage.

The Tigers have drawn their first three fixtures of the new campaign against Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle and Millwall as they prepare to face Leeds United away this weekend.
