Hull City- are slowly improving but there remain big questions about their threats

Hull City facing crunch week as big questions remain about Tim Walter’s Tigers

Saturday saw Hull City go four competitive games without victory at the start of the season after being held to a 0-0 draw with Millwall.

The MKM Stadium was flat for a second successive lunchtime kick-off at home and that was reflected in the performance from Tim Walter’s side, who huffed and puffed without ever looking like beating a resolute Lions side who earned their first point after successive league defeats.

City will hope the next few days yield a flurry of arrivals before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday night, ahead of that crunch visit to Leeds United on Saturday afternoon in their final outing before the first international break of the season.

A watching brief

It’s become a theme in recent weeks with potential new signings sitting in the stands for a very public viewing of City in action, and it was no different here. Liam Cooper and Gustavo Puerta were both in the posh seats to watch the game.

Both are expected to complete moves to the club in the next few hours, with Puerta signing on loan from Bayer Leverkusen and Cooper arriving on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United.

Cooper’s imminent arrival has been met with a surge of frustration on social media relating to comments made by him in 2019 about growing up in Hull but supporting Leeds. He’s an experienced campaigner at this level, and City don’t have a huge amount of that in their ranks, though they’re well-stocked at the back with Charlie Hughes and Fin Burns signing, so it does suggest there could be a departure before deadline day

Lack of creativity

We said it throughout last season and again now, under a different manager and one supposedly famed for his attacking intent, City still lack a creative spark.
