The centre-back needed to be replaced in the first half after suffering a nasty blow to the head
Cashin needed to be taken off in the first half after he was on the wrong end of an accidental collision with team-mate Callum Elder that left him prone inside the penalty area.
The centre-back tried to lift his head only to put it back down again and there was genuine concern for the fans’ favourite, who was eventually back on his feet after some lengthy treatment.
Cashin wanted to get back playing but it was decided he would be coming off, although the academy graduate was furious at having to leave the pitch to be replaced by Sonny Bradley as part of the concussion protocol.
Warne said the defender’s mentality meant he was never going to be happy, but insisted he was concerned with how he was moving second after it happened.
“I spoke to him when he walked past me like the Incredible Hulk,” he said. “He stomped past me and I just said to him, ‘Look mate, just calm down and breathe a second ‘.
“He was disappointed to be coming off, but if you’re a gladiator like he is then you’re always on edge and you never want to be substituted. If you tried to get Curtis Nelson to come off unless he can’t use both legs, he is staying on.
“You want that from players and you don’t want to take that out of players, but the way he hit the ground and he was moving didn’t look to great to me.
“It was a bit frightening. Luckily Rob Price (head of sport and medicine) just sent the physios on and it didn’t feel like we had the ref’s approval. But sometimes things are more important. We got told he was definitely coming off and he was disappointed. I’ve been concussed loads of times but in the good old days nothing happened. You’d just get on with it, even though you’d be thinking I’ve just been knocked out there.
“Until he gets the symptoms in the next couple of days, Cash probably felt fine at that point but he will feel horrific tonight. It was the right decision to take him off.”
