Hull City coach- Tim Walter on incoming trio and why defender was loaned to Doncaster Rovers-

Hull City coach Tim Walter could have as many as three new players at his disposal as he looks to kickstart the Tigers’ stuttering start to the new campaign.

The Tigers needed a stoppage-time penalty to rescue a point in the Championship against Bristol City on Saturday. Four days later at the MKM Stadium they conceded two goals in the first 10 minutes as they were knocked out of the League Cup by Sheffield Wednesday.

The incoming trio are defender Charlie Hughes from Wigan who has completed a medical and whose signing is imminent, 21-year-old Chelsea forward Mason Burstow and midfielder Oscar Zambrano on loan.

All three watched Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat from the stands and are expected to be registered in time to face Plymouth Argyle on Saturday

Hughes, 20, is set to sign a long-term deal with Walter saying: “It’s a young, experienced player and that’s good because we want to improve.

“We want to develop young players with a lot of experience and that’s what he showed in his former club. First, we need other things to happen and then maybe he could (play on Saturday).”

On Burstow, Walter added: “He’s also a very good player. A very young player who also had experience in another Championship club, so for us, it’s also a player, a young player to develop, but also with experience.”

Meanwhile, 24-year-old left-back Brandon Fleming has been loaned to League Two Doncaster Rovers, reuniting him with his former Tigers manager Grant McCann.

McCann moved quickly after a metatarsal injury expected to keep James Maxwell out for three months.

“He’s a good guy, a very good footballer and he wants to play a bit more so that’s the reason why he asked me (to go out on loan),” said Walter.”I wish him all the best and that he gets the minutes.”

Fleming said: “I know how the gaffer and Cliff (Byrne, his assistant) work and how they train. The gaffer gave me a chance at 19 in the Championship and I learned a lot from those games.”

Every word Tim Walter said on Hull City injuries, transfers, Wayne Rooney and Plymouth Argyle

The Tigers are in Devon this weekend to take on an Argyle side managed by Wayne Rooney

Hull City head coach Tim Walter will get his first taste of Championship action on the road this season when he takes his Tigers side to Plymouth Argyle for Saturday’s crunch meeting.

City ended last season at Home Park as their play-off dream ended in Devon, while Argyle’s 1-0 win was enough to keep them in the Championship at Birmingham City’s expense.

It’s been all change at both clubs since, however, with Wayne Rooney taking over at Home Park and Walter replacing Liam Rosenior in the MKM Stadium hot seat, and ahead of the long trip south, the German has been speaking to Hull Live about a host of topics as he looks for his first win in charge.

On Cody Drameh’s recovery

“Everything is fine, everything’s good. We will see tomorrow (Friday) but maybe the weekend is too early, but he will soon be back which is good news because he’s a good player and we need good players. Maybe it is a problem to not have him in the squad at the moment, but he will soon be there and then he’s another player who makes us better.”

Longman’s shoulder surgery

“Everything has been done. We messaged each other, so he’s feeling good even though he can’t play, but he is in a good mood because everything is fine and the surgery was good. Everything at the moment it’s OK without the mentality side. We are here to help him, so that’s also good.”

Rachioppi’s error – and recovery

“That’s important in football that you get the mistakes out of your head because the next situation is coming. The biggest players and the greatest players do it like that.

“They perform like that because they are not thinking about what was, they are looking forward all the time, and that’s important. Antony did that so I’m really happy about it because he’s new. He’s only been over there for five days. I liked his performance because he showed the character and he showed the courage that he can do it.”

Marvin Mehlem’s first goal and getting more from Abdus

“He likes running in behind, he likes running in the depths so that’s what he did on Wednesday and he stayed quiet and calm in front of the keeper. He’s got the technical ability and the experience he has, and he showed it.

“‘I’m looking forward to seeing it more often from him, but also from Abdus. We have to bring him more in the position to score, and then they can improve, and then they can get more experience inside those situations. They did a good job and they played well together.”

The task posed by Plymouth

“It’s great. It’s a long journey but I’m very happy to travel to Plymouth because I’m very excited to see how we improve from Wednesday night against Sheffield Wednesday.

“We are on a good point, we’re improving because now we’re getting more players in, and it’s getting better and better. We changed a lot yesterday (against the Owls). So different players are in different positions and that’s good for us to see in the moment but in the end, we have to look forward because it’s a long season.”

On facing Wayne Rooney

“Oh, he was a great player. I loved watching him but I don’t know him as a gaffer. I think everybody who is in the Championship is a good team.

“For us, it’s a chance to improve our game, to improve my style of playing all the time and that’s what we do also under pressure in an away game. It’s important for us to show that courage and that you can show bravery.
