Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy announced the team would not be renewing the contracts for six

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy announced the team would not be renewing the contracts for six coaches on staff.

The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff will look significantly different next season.

Head coach Mike McCarthy announced six coaches would not be returning with the Cowboys: Rob Davis (Assistant Head Coach), George Edwards (Senior Defensive Assistant), Leon Lett (Assistant Defensive Line) Skip Peete (Running Backs), Joe Philbin (Offensive Line), Kyle Valero (Quality Control Analytics).

“We thank these men for their hard work, dedication and contributions to the Cowboys. Each of them represented our team and organization at a high, professional level with class and commitment to making our team better,” said McCarthy. “These were difficult decisions to make because of the great respect I have for each of them as a coach and person of character, combined with the experiences we’ve all gone through together. This is the hardest part of the business and we wish them nothing but the best.”

There is a possibility Dallas could be without its offensive and defensive coordinators, as well. Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn have both been hot names within the head coaching carousel.

Quinn has interviewed with the Colts, Cardinals and Broncos for their head coaching positions. Moore has interviewed with the Panthers head coaching job.

The coaching staff changes come after Dallas lost to San Francisco in the NFC Divisional Round, 19-12.

As the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy found himself in an unexpected position: passionately rooting for the Arizona Cardinals. McCarthy, along with Cowboys Nation, celebrated Arizona’s pivotal win over the Philadelphia Eagles, a game that significantly impacts the Cowboys’ playoff positioning.

The Cardinals’ 35-31 comeback victory over the Eagles directly benefits the Cowboys, offering them a clear chance to secure the NFC East title and the coveted No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

“Nothing surprises me,” McCarthy stated on Monday. “I was there rooting for the Cardinals all the way – my wife and I -in the fourth quarter.”

With both the Cowboys and Eagles standing at 11-5, another win for Dallas in the upcoming game would clinch the NFC East title. The Cowboys hold the advantage, possessing a better NFC record than the Eagles.

McCarthy acknowledged the competitiveness of the league and emphasized the need for the team to maintain focus and determination. “If there’s ever a time in our season where we have to lock down and really keep the blinders on, because it’s right in front of us [it is now],” said the HC.
