Acun Ilicali-on why Hull City-are taking risk on midfielder as goalkeeper closes in on move…

Acun Ilicali says his belief in Oscar Zambrano is why Hull City are prepared to take a risk on the midfielder set to join them along with goalkeeper Anthony Racioppi.

Hull are expected to complete a loan for Zambrano with an option to buy him from LDU Quito.

But it is a risky move, with the 20-year-old defensive midfielder under investigation after reportedly failing a drugs test in March.

“He has an issue, but about this issue, we believe in him,” chairman Ilicali told a Q&A session for Hull fans this week

“He told us his story and his problem is that he’s in danger of getting banned maybe but we think he is innocent. He just explained everything to us and that’s the reason we will be able to get him with this budget.

“If anything comes of course, there will not be any damage (to Hull) and we will take this risk, so for us, it is okay.”

Meanwhile, Hull are closing in on an £860,000 deal with Young Boys for 25-year-old Racioppi, who played home and away against Manchester City in last season’s Champions League.

The summer departures of Ryan Allsop and Matt Ingram left Ivor Pandur as the nearest thing Hull had to a senior goalkeeper, although the 24-year-old is yet to play senior football for them since joining in January

He had a two-year spell with Dijon before moving to Young Boys.

Hull need to significantly beef up their squad after losing 15 senior players as well as seeing four loanees return to their parent clubs in the summer.

The work will go on beyond their opening game of the new season, at home to Bristol City on Saturday. In keeping with all the Championship games that day, it kicks off at 12.30pm.
