It’s obvious’ – Tim Walter discusses Hull City’s transfer hopes ahead of Championship opener

Hull City’s campaign ended with a 2-0 loss at Reading to round off pre-season

Tim Walter stressed the importance of more new arrivals at Hull City after watching his side beaten 2-0 by League One side Reading to round off their pre-season campaign.

The Tigers have lost four and drawn two of their six games this summer as the players come to terms with Walter’s new philosophy, but look well short of the quality and depth needed to be a force in the Championship this season.

City have only managed to add three new players to their ranks this summer with Marvin Mehlem the latest having arrived on Thursday.

Walter is desperate to see more new arrivals before the season starts at home to Bristol City next Saturday and says conversations with owner Acun Ilicali and vice-chairman remain plentiful and positive.

“We need more players, and next week the season will start. Like I said before, it’s more maybe a longer pre-season, because we have to adapt new players if they will at the end and finally step in.

“It’s all about deciding, it’s all about decision-making, It’s fine. If you bring some players in and you decide for me, it’s fine but it’s all about decision making. At the moment, I have to work with those players I have and not more.”

On the subject of conversations with Kesler and Ilicali about new recruits and how close they are, Walter added they were “always good, always good”.

City will continue to work on new arrivals over the weekend with Oscar Zambrano’s move from Ecuador still on the agenda, while talks continue with FC Basel over a move for Liam Millar, but Walter admits the squad needs depth throughout, from back to front.

“There could be (players in before next weekend). Nobody knows,” he said when asked if he thought more arrivals could come ahead of the opening game. “It’s obvious, you need players in every position. You need more players in every position.

“We can talk especially about this player or this player or this position, but we need players in every position we need a progression. I have to wait and I have to stay strong and it’s what I did but losing games, I’m not happy about it.”
