Former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Gaston Sirino is poised to join Kaizer Chiefs, having reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Soweto giants. The final hurdle is Sirino successfully passing a medical examination, which is expected to be a mere formality.The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who holds a South African passport, could make the move to Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns. Sirino’s arrival could significantly enhance Chiefs’ attacking options, providing both experience and depth to the squad.

Gaston Sirino joined Sundowns in 2018 on the recommendation of club legend Esrom Nyandoro. During his time at Sundowns, he won six league titles and numerous cup trophies. Despite his successful stint, Sirino’s playing time diminished under Rulani Mokwena, prompting his departure.

Sirino’s decision to join Chiefs, despite offers from Bolivia, Chile, and North Africa, underscores his commitment to continuing his career in South Africa. With a record of 41 goals and 44 assists in over 200 appearances for Sundowns, Sirino’s creative and attacking prowess will be a valuable asset for Sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. confirmed the club’s continued pursuit of new talent. “We’re definitely not done in the transfer market because there are some glaring positions in the squad that we need to reinforce,” he said.
