What Will- Jaguar’s All-Electric Car Future Look Like? Here’s What We Know Jaguar will now be part of …

Jaguar will now be part of a “house of brands.

The 2020s will be a decade of transition for nearly every automaker, but no brand is embarking on a greater metamorphosis than Jaguar. The parent company, Jaguar Land Rover, has rebranded itself as “JLR,” taking the feline name out of its corporate nomenclature — and the brand’s new “Reimagine” corporate strategy calls for a complete reinvention of the storied British sports car brand from nearly the ground up.

JLR has been tight-lipped about Jaguar developments since that announcement. But here’s a quick rundown of everything we do know so far.            Jaguar is promising to go all-electric by 2025

Other manufacturers have been pulling back from their EV plans amid slowed growth in recent years; Mercedes nixed its pledge to go all-electric by 2030, and Aston Martin delayed launching its first EV. But as far as we know, Jaguar still plans to go all-electric by 2025.

Jaguar won’t rely on any previous-generation technology to make it happen. The sleek XJ sedan successor that was just about ready for production when it was cancelled in 2021 will remain dead, and Jaguar has confirmed the I-Pace EV will leave the lineup in 2025.

Jaguar has started phasing out its gas-powered car lineup

Jaguar is reportedly shutting down production of the XE, XF and F-Type by June 2024. That will make Jaguar an SUV-only manufacturer until the all-new EV lineup launches, with only the I-Pace, F-Pace and E-Pace to be found in showrooms.

Part of the new “JLR” rebranding is the switch to a new “House of Brands” strategy. Instead of two brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, JLR now has four brands: Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender and Discovery.

This shouldn’t make a huge difference to customers; Range Rover, Defender and Discovery vehicles will still carry “Land Rover” badging and be sold at Land Rover dealerships. But it does indicate that Jaguar will play a more limited, niche role within the portfolio.

Jaguar will relaunch itself with three new electric cars

Autocar reports that the latest plans are for Jaguar to launch with three new electric cars based on a new long-wheelbase JEA architecture: a four-door grand tourer, a Bentley Bentayga-sized SUV and a large sedan that won’t be named “XJ.”

The cars will allegedly each offer all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and fast charging from 10-80 percent in as little as 13 minutes. Each of the cars will pack at least 450 horsepower and top ranges from 385 to 475 miles (likely less under EPA testing), according to the report.

Those EVs will move Jaguar dramatically upmarket

The days of Jaguar selling sub-$50,000 new cars like the compact XE sedan appear to be numbered. Per Autocar, each of the three Jaguar models will start between £100,000 and £125,000 — roughly $125,000 to $150,000. Reducing lineup complexity and volume and coming in at a higher price point would presumably improve Jaguar’s profitability.

Jaguar is ditching the leaping cat logo

According to Autocar, the new Jaguar cars will abandon the leaping cat logo used on the current models. Instead, the brand will reportedly move to the more generic choice of “JAGUAR” text spelled out on the front and rear.

When will the new Jaguar EVs launch?

2025. According to Autocar, the four-door GT car will debut in 2024 before going on sale during the 2025 calendar year. The Bentayga-sized SUV will launch the year following with the sedan coming sometime after that reveal.
