REPORT: Kansas City Chiefs Key Wide Receiver Suffers Gruesome Injury …

A key offensive weapon for the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a gruesome-looking injury at practice Wednesday. The Chiefs held their fourth day of practice of training camp.

The Chiefs must keep all the depth they can before Week 1 of the season. Second-year wide receiver Rahsee Rice could be suspended for his role in a high-speed crash in Dallas on Easter Weekend.

The Kansas City Chiefs have questions at WR

As previously discussed on GH, two other wide receivers could be cap casualties before Aug. 27:

Two receivers will battle to keep their jobs in training camp. Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore have underperformed for the Chiefs in recent seasons. The Chiefs would save $2.5 million by trading Toney before Aug. 27. They’d save $1.29 million by cutting or trading Moore.

With those issues present in Kansas City this summer, the Chiefs added another depth piece at receiver with the physical tools to make the 53-man roster.

Justin Watson suffered a gruesome foot injury

According to a report by KCTV 5, wide receiver Justin Watson sustained a foot injury during Wednesday’s practice

Watson made a sliding catch and then remained down on the field during the final practice without pads for the Chiefs. The third-year Chief was checked out by team trainers, who appeared to be looking at his lower left leg. After practice, a Chiefs spokesperson said Watson injured his foot and cornerback Nazeeh Johnson hurt his knee.

Watson, a 28-year-old who had 27 catches for 460 yards in 2023, was able to walk to the tent on his own and was then carted up the hill at Missouri Western State University.

Watson was a key part of the Chiefs offense last season. He recorded 27 receptions for 460 yards and three touchdowns, enough to make him the team’s third-leading receiver.

Report: Chiefs Injury Updates as WR & CB Leave Training Camp

The one thing every organization and fanbase can universally agree on during training camp is a hope for no injuries. Unfortunately, the Kansas City Chiefs suffered two of relative importance on July 24.

“Chiefs report WR Justin Watson left with a foot injury and CB Nazeeh Johnson exited with a knee issue,” Chiefs Digest beat reporter Matt Derrick relayed from practice.

The positive news is that in an update from A-to-Z Sports reporter Charles Goldman, Johnson was called “good” by multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. Goldman added that “one source indicated that Johnson simply ‘landed funny’ on the knee after a play during practice and wanted to get it checked out for precautionary reasons.”

Remember, Johnson suffered a torn ACL almost a year ago to the day on July 30, 2023.

As for Watson, Goldman stated that there is “no word” yet from the Chiefs. Fox 4 KC’s PJ Green shared footage of the apparent injury on X.

At the time of the injury, Arrowhead Pride reporter Pete Sweeney noted that the ailment occurred on a “sliding” catch during the 7-on-7 period of practice, but it looks more like Watson slips on the field upon closer inspection. “He walked off with the help of trainers,” Sweeney continued.

ESPN’s Adam Teicher also added that “after a lengthy visit with trainers, Watson is now being carted up the hill and to the locker room.” It’s fair to point out that carts are often used for transport during training camp, unlike in a real NFL game where they’re typically utilized for more severe injuries.
