New Era At Goodison Park: £100k-a-week player could do a u-turn and sign a new contract with Everton…

Everton’s summer has been a largely streamlined process thus far, with the bulk of their acquisitions coming in with minimal fuss, whilst any sales were negotiated and sanctioned in good faith.

Allowing such departures was made far encouraged given the financial restrictions still at play, but also the buying clubs’ willingness to provide a fair fee on the three separate occasions often left Kevin Thelwell with no choice.

If he is to usher in a new era at Goodison Park, starting with this revolutionary summer, he will have to do it completely self-sustained, especially after Dan Friedkin’s Everton takeover collapsed.

It is this ongoing takeover turmoil that has hung like a dark cloud over this club for well over a year now though, and is casting a negative shadow onto an otherwise positive past few months.

And now, that misery is spilling out into the dressing room, with one player in particular really worried.

Update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation
Earlier this month, it was revealed the real reason why Dominic Calvert-Lewin would not sign a new Everton contract.

The 27-year-old, who has been a mainstay on Merseyside since joining in 2017, was largely expected to complete the bulk of his career with the Toffees, such is the relationship he has forged with the fanbase over these years.

Scorer of some monumental recent goals, he is a near-irreplaceable asset for Sean Dyche, thus explaining why they are so keen to tie him down.

With Calvert-Lewin rejecting one contract, their worst fears were realised.

But now, one report from iNews has provided a more positive spin to proceedings, writing: ‘It is potentially a different story with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, although sources have not written off the chance of him signing a new contract at Goodison Park. That feels unlikely even if tentative interest from AC Milan and Chelsea earlier in the transfer window has not been followed up.

‘There has been no contact from any club since Newcastle United held talks with Calvert-Lewin in June which i understands broke down over his wage demands.’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be tough for Everton to replace
Standing at 6 foot 3, but with electric pace and quick feet too, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a physical marvel, and arguably the perfect Dyche number nine.

A willing runner too who has shown at times throughout his career that he knows where the net is, there is little to dislike about the former Sheffield United man.

Even having endured a truly abhorrent barren spell in front of goal last season, his side still eased to Premier League safety for a change; what he offers to this team is far more than the goals he should have scored.

The perfect statistic to emulate Dyche’s desperation to play him whenever is outlined by FBref, which compares Calvert-Lewin to other strikers across Europe.

He ranks in the top 6% for both clearances and aerials won per 90, outlining his defensive intelligence and hold-up play which helps the rest of the side get up the pitch.

Beto is not nearly as refined as he is, whilst Youssef Chermiti is still learning.

Tying the Englishman down to a new deal would mark monumental business for Everto
