Hull City face a battle to sign free agent Marek Rodak

It is crystal clear that Hull City want to strengthen their goalkeeping department before the transfer window closes at the end of August. Tim Walter’s side were recently credited with an interest in Slovakian international Marek Rodak.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper is a free agent after leaving Fulham earlier this summer. He made 102 appearances for the Premier League side. As well as the Tigers, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County were also said to be big admirers of Rodak.

But City face a battle to sign Rodak, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano saying Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq are working on a deal to sign the player. Romano states talks have taken place and that Rodak could be the next player to join Steven Gerrard’s side.                                    City are down on numbers in between the sticks, having sold Ryan Allsop and Matt Ingram to Birmingham City and Oxford United respectively. Their exits have left head coach Tim Walter with Ivor Pandur, Timothee Lo-Tutala, Harvey Cartwright and Owen Foster as his goalkeeping options.

Pandur, signed in the January transfer window, has yet to make a competitive appearance. The Croatian failed to win over former boss Liam Rosenior and has struggled for form in pre-season. Pandur received some criticism following their 5-1 defeat to Fenerbahce last week.

Cartwright and Lo-Tutala picked up injuries on City’s pre-season training camp in Turkey. It left Walter with little choice but to select academy graduate Foster on the bench in their warm-up fixture at Doncaster Rovers in midweek.

“We need a new goalkeeper, but it’s the same situation for every position in the squad because we do not have the numbers,” admitted Walter.

Aston Villa surprise emerges as Fabrizio Romano drops £84million transfer news

Bryan King is shocked by how high Jaden Philogene’s release clause is at Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout has suggested that the club and Unai Emery likely hold high hopes for the 22-year-old.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (19 July), Philogene’s Aston Villa contract includes a release clause worth £84million.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes this demonstrates how highly the club value the forward.

“I’m surprised by how high that release clause is,” King said.

“Clearly the club feel that he is going to be an important player and certainly a first-team regular. I’m just not sure where they get a figure of £84million from, that seems very strange to me.
