The driver of the dumper truck, Vipin Pandey, acting on the behest of a local strongman, arrived with gravel and dumped it all on the two women who were nearly buried under it.
After the incident, the villagers could be seen rushing to the spot and using primitive tools to remove the gravel and free up the two women. They both were taken to the Community Health Centre in Gangev, from where they were discharged after some time.
According to the police, it was a family land dispute between the two sides. A case under attempt to murder has been lodged and Pandey arrested, while two others have been made accused. The dumper used in the incident has also been seized by the authorities.
“The women were protesting, and the dumper overturned the gravel, burying them. Both parties have a dispute over family land,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Vivek Lal.
“First, there was a physical altercation, and then the gravel was thrown on Mamta and Asha Pandey,” he added.
