‘We are not sending him back’ – Hull City chief makes eleventh hour Jaden Philogene transfer claim

The latest Aston Villa transfer news as Hull City director Tan Kesler explains how Jaden Philogene’s impending return to Aston Villa was possible

Hull City are reluctantly letting a player of Jaden Philogene’s talents leave, says club director Tan Kesler, who also explains how Aston Villa were able to see off numerous rivals to secure the winger’s return.

After an exciting pre-season last summer the 22-year-old opted to drop down to the second tier permanently, leaving Villa to join Hull City. It was in East Yorkshire where he flourished, scoring 12 goals and six assists as the Tigers narrowly failed in their bid to reach the play-offs.

Performances naturally resulted in transfer interest and just as it seemed newly-promoted Ipswich Town would be the ones to hand Philogene his big break, then arrived his former club with a hidden optional matching rights clause to steal the deal from under their noses.                 READ MORE: Aston Villa see Premier League rivals jump queue for £25m transfer target

“Jaden Philogene will most likely return to Aston Villa upon the agreement we made. We are doing the paperwork,” Hull’s Kesler told Turkish outlet Hurriyet on Thursday. His side are currently in Istanbul preparing for a pre-season meeting with Fenerbahce tonight.

However, there was a strong hint of reluctance as he expanded on the winger’s anticipated exit.

“When we say he will return, we are not sending him back,” the director added. “Jaden Philogene received very serious offers from approximately five to six big clubs. Barcelona made a loan offer, we met with two clubs from Germany.

“Approximately 15-16 scouts from top teams watched him during the season. By purchasing Jaden Philogene, we actually created an opportunity for Aston Villa. In return for this opportunity, they said, ‘We are prepared not to match all offers that may come in the market’. We showed them these offers and they matched them. They have now taken Jaden back.”

Finally, hinting at the role he believes the player will have in Unai Emery ‘s squad, he said: “They will most likely play him in the Champions League. Our investment in him will continue to gain value. Jaden seems to be going to Aston Villa.”
