In response to the event, Sheffield Wednesday has also been reprimanded by the FA, which said: “Sheffield Wednesday has been ordered to implement an action plan for misconduct in regard to crowd management at their EFL Championship game against Coventry City on Saturday, January 20, 2024, as well as fined £12,500.

Sheffield Wednesday acknowledged that they were not able to guarantee that their fans and spectators—or anyone posing as a fan—behave in a disciplined manner in the 94th minute and refrain from using language or acting in any other way that would be inappropriate, abusive, or insulting, including making overt or covert references to someone’s race, ethnicity, or color.
