HULL CITY: Tim Walter’s verdict after Hull City’s opening pre-season game ended 1-1 draw with Kasimpasa.

The Tigers gave a fascinating glimpse into Tim Walter’s new era in their first pre-season outing

Tim Walter declared himself very pleased with the opening game of Hull City’s pre-season campaign which saw the Tigers fight back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Kasimpasa.

A strong first-half line-up saw the Tigers dominate against a side that finished fifth in the Turkish Super Lig last term before a youthful team conceded midway through the second period when Aytac Kara headed beyond Harvey Cartwright before Sincere Hall finished a smart move late on to earn a deserved share of the spoils.

Walter promised a different brand of football from his side and just two weeks into his tenure, the difference was obvious from the first minute of an enjoyable first period, with City playing on the front foot and surging forward at every opportunity, with the home goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis in inspired form to keep the scorelines level.

“I liked it really,” Walter told Hull Live. “I enjoyed watching because I saw a lot of things that we tried to bring to the lads with the fluid building up from the back, with the rotation and with the step in, the give and go with the fill up the positions with running behind, always try to play forward, try to create chances.

“We also have to be aware for the ball loss because if you play possession, you have to be always awake that you never lose the ball in a situation or if you lose the ball, you have to stay behind him and you have to know, maybe he can lose the ball.

Hull City boss Tim Walter remains relaxed about the club’s transfer activity with less than four weeks to go until the start of the new Championship campaign.

City kicked off the Walter era with a 1-1 draw against Super Lig side Kasimpasa on Saturday evening with youngster Sincere Hall scoring in the final 10 minutes to earn a share of the spoils.

It was the first half which saw Walter’s side capture the imagination with a dominant, attack-minded display, but the lack of depth was evident, particularly in the top half of the pitch.

Walter admits the squad needs numbers but says he is calm about proceedings, despite the growing angst amongst some supporters concerned at the lack of new arrivals, though stopped short of going into too much detail and would not be drawn on specific names.

“I agree that we need numbers because we are less but I don’t like talking about maybe in the future upcoming things.,” he told Hull Live at the training camp in Riva. “So just at that point, all I can do is work with them on the pitch, not more. I’m patient, I’m totally patient.”

Speaking about his first game as City boss, albeit only a friendly behind closed doors, Walter was pleased with what he saw from his side after only two weeks on the training pitch.

“You don’t know at this point, you don’t know if they bring it to the match.” he continued. “If you see it like they improved in the training session, all I can say is that I thought they would do it so and I see today that they try to do it, not always in the correct positioning, but they try to do it and that’s all I can have from them.

“For me, that’s the perfect way to work because they need the conviction in themselves and the conviction in our philosophy, that’s all that we need.”
