Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders and Bill Belichick were linked to the Dallas Cowboys’ job — which could be open in 2025 if Mike McCarthy’s contract isn’t renewed — by Spain-based tabloid Marca.

“Bill Belichick is one of the most successful coaches in the NFL,” the publication prefaced before saying, “Deion Sanders is testing his talents as a head coach with the Colorado Buffaloes. For many, there is no point of comparison between one and the other, even so, both could be on the shortlist for one of the most desired positions in the league, that of the helmsman of the Dallas Cowboys.

“The numbers don’t help McCarthy, and Jones isn’t known for his patience. The search for the new Cowboys head coach is about to begin, and Belichick could face unexpected competition from Coach Prime for the job.”

Time and again, Coach Prime has reiterated that his future will be in Boulder.

“Okay, let me start by saying I’m a leader of men, not a follower of men,” Sanders told Joel Klatt on a “Big Noon Convo.” “I’m a father, not a baby daddy. I lead my sons, I don’t follow my sons. My sons, Travis included, are getting ready to migrate to the NFL. I’m not following them to the NFL. I’m gonna lead. I’m a daddy, not a baby daddy. I’m a real father. I paved the way for my babies, they’re not paving the way for me.”

It’s a known secret in media circles that retirement is closer to reality for Sanders than a potential jump to coaching in the pros is.

For some reason, though, coaching the Dallas Cowboys, a team he won Super Bowl XXX on, continues to pop up in rumors.

Marca’s assertion could be ignored. Not only about Sanders being an option for Cowboys but for Belichick too. Those keeping tabs on the eight-time Super Bowl champion know he’s enjoying life after retirement.

Sanders has unfinished business at CU that’ll be worked on even after his two sons declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
