FILE – Steve Bannon appears in court in New York, Jan. 12, 2023. Trump ally Steve Bannon has asked the Supreme Court to delay his prison sentence while he fights his convictions for defying a subpoena from the House committee that investigated the attack on U.S. Capitol. BOOKMARK
Steve Bannon, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, has begun his four-month prison term for contempt charges in a Connecticut federal prison as of Monday.

The sentence follows his refusal to comply with a subpoena from the congressional probe into the assault on the US Capitol. Despite nearly two years of freedom while appealing, Bannon was compelled to start his sentence after an appeals court panel upheld his convictions for contempt of Congress.

His eleventh-hour plea to postpone his imprisonment was turned down by the Supreme Court. Bannon faced a jury and was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress: one for not attending a deposition with the January 6 House Committee, and another for failing to hand over documents concerning his role in the ex-GOP president’s bid to reverse his 2020 election defeat to Democrat Joe Biden.
