The Portland Trail Blazers have traded the 34th and 40th picks for future second round picks and cash during the second day of the 2024 NBA draft.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Blazers sent the 34th pick to the New York Knicks who selected Marquette point guard Tyler Kolek.

Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer reports that, in return, the Blazers received a 2027 Minnesota Timberwolves second-round pick, a 2030 New York Knicks second-rounder, and the least favorable second from the Indiana Pacers or Washington Wizards.

Later, the Blazers sent the 40th pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder before it ended up with the Phoenix Suns, who selected Oso Ighodaro, also out of Marquette.

Portland reportedly received pick 52 in return for pick 40, however Fischer reported that the pick was traded by Portland back to the originating team, the Golden State Warriors, to select Boston College’s Quintin Post.

Portland received cash from the Thunder to move back from 40 to 52, then also received cash from the Warriors to relinquish the 52nd pick, according to Sean Highkin of the Rose Garden Report.

Via all these transactions, the Blazers moved completely out of the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, making no actual picks, with up to 15 contracts already in hand for next season.

The trade comes a day after the Blazers took University of Connecticut center Donovan Clingan with the seventh pick, which brought positive reactions from analysts.

Portland also orchestrated a trade with the Washington Wizards to secure young wing Deni Avdija, however it won’t be made official until July 6. The Blazers sent Malcolm Brogdon, yesterday’s 14th pick, the Blazer second-best 2029 first round pick and two second round picks.
