Angel Reese fight in front of recruits among new details from offseason LSU,

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey blasted The Washington Post ahead of the release of a speculative article surrounding her program and tumultuous details of her career. Within that planned feature was a portion on former LSU star Angel Reese and alleged behavioral issues.

According to Kent Babb of The Washington Post, whose previously unpublished details went public through an open records request by the The Daily Advertiser, Reese’s behavioral issues stemmed from an altercation she had with a teammate in front of a recruit. Mulkey reportedly made players turn off their phones and leave them in another room in 2022 during a team meeting following the alleged skirmish.

“This was after a fight involving Angel Reese, witnessed by one of my sources, that occurred in front of visiting recruits,” Babb wrote. “One of these individuals present in the team meeting shared that Mulkey said: ‘This entire locker room is trash.’”

The Daily Advertiser’s story reports its publication was “unable to independently confirm whether Reese was involved in a fight. Efforts to get comment from Reese through her WNBA team the Chicago Sky were unsuccessful. LSU did not comment on the matter.”

A previous Washington Post profile report on Mulkey painted her in a not-so-positive manner as someone who “holds grudges” as a tyrant, but the mother of current Tigers starter Flau’jae Johnson remains supportive of the four-time national champion. Kia Brooks defended Mulkey’s abrasive coaching style, saying her tough love style is actually a positive.

“I trust her with my kid. Honestly, I do, because she’s not going to baby Flau’jae,” Brooks said, via Jacques Doucet of WAFB Channel 9. “She’s going to make her a woman. When she leaves here she’s going to be a woman, you know what I’m saying? And I respect that because I’m not easy on Flau. I was hard on her. Anything you want in life you gotta go get it, you gotta go fight for it. There are a million kids out here trying to do what you’re doing, so what’s going to separate you?”

Before the story’s publication, Mulkey threatened to sue the newspaper. She called it a “false story” and blamed the reporter for going after her and LSU’s program.

All eyes will be on the nation’s top prep quarterbacks this week as the Elite 11 Finals return. The invite-only event, which has served as a showcase in the past for dozens upon dozens of future NFL starters, will bring 20 signal-callers from around the country to Los Angeles for three days of competition where the cream should rise to the top.

This year’s roster has one notable omission as LSU commit Bryce Underwood, the consensus No. 1-ranked prospect in the class of 2025, will not be participating. Still, the group of finalists is a scout’s dream with 14 of the 17 quarterbacks currently ranked inside the Top247 expected to go through the ringer. That includes four five-stars and nine of the top 10-ranked passers.
