The viewership peaked at 3 million views, and was up 225% over a comparable game window last season between the Phoenix Mercury and the New York Liberty.

Reese was called for a Flagrant 1 on Sunday in the third quarter after hitting Caitlin Clark in the head as she attempted a layup. The officials reviewed the play and decided it was enough for Reese to be assessed a flagrant.

“It’s just part of basketball, it is what it is,” Clark told reporters after the game, per Indy Star’s Chloe Peterson. “She was trying to make a play on the ball, and get the block. It happens.”

The flagrant came two weeks after Sky’s Chennedy Carter knocked Clark to the ground with a hip-check when the ball wasn’t in play — a play Reese appeared to cheer on from the sideline when it happened. The officials called it an away-from-the-ball-foul before the WNBA upgraded it to a Flagrant 1 the following day.

Clark said earlier this month that she’s at a point where she just accepts what happens to her during games and not retaliate.

The rivalry between Clark and Reese dates back to when they were at Iowa and LSU, respectively. In 2023, LSU defeated Iowa in the NCAA championship game, but Iowa got its revenge the following year and eliminated LSU in the Elite Eight. Prior to tipoff, Reese said that she and Clark don’t hate one another, there’s just “no friends” once they step on the court.
