The 36-year-old Serbian was marking signatures for onlookers when he was struck by the water bottle, competition coordinators told CNN.

Authorities said Friday that Djokovic had gotten back to his inn and that “his condition isn’t a reason to worry.”

The episode was a mishap, coordinators said, and gave video showing the container dropping out of an observer’s knapsack.

Djokovic later posted on X, previously Twitter, expressing gratitude toward fans for their messages.

“This was a mishap and I’m fine resting at the inn with an ice pack. See you all on Sunday,” he said.

Djokovic crushed Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-3 6-1 and is next planned to confront Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo on Sunday.
