Chris Gotterup birdied the last four openings to get a one-stroke lead over Robert MacIntyre after Friday’s second round of the debut PGA Visit Myrtle Ocean side Work of art.
The 24-year-old American, making just his 27th vocation PGA start, terminated a seven-under 64 to remain on 12-under 130 after 36 openings at Rises Golf and Ocean side Club in the South Carolina get-away sanctuary.
That left him with a one-stroke lead over Scotland’s MacIntyre and a two-stroke edge over Spain’s Jorge Campillo with Americans Playmate Hossler, Alex Smalley, Davis Thompson and Alistair Docherty sharing fourth on 133.
“There are a great deal of heroes squarely in the blend there,” Gotterup said. “Just got to go out and do what I’m attempting to do and execute shots.
“I certainly can take advantage two or three openings with some length. Just got to push my pedal down and keep along.”
World number 284 Gotterup’s best PGA finish was a portion of fourth at the 2022 John Deere Exemplary.
Gotterup birdied six of the last eight openings on the whole, beginning with a nine-foot birdie putt at 13 and a seven-footer at the standard 5 fifteenth.
He arrived at the green in two at the standard 5 fifteenth to set up a tap-in birdie, added a five-foot birdie putt at 16, then moved home a mammoth 50-foot birdie putt on the standard 3 eighteenth prior to shutting with a 17-foot birdie putt from the periphery.
“We were simply executing shots pretty positively down the stretch,” Gotterup said. “It got pretty blustery, so certainly a decent completion for me.”
World number 84 MacIntyre, two times a champ on the DP World Visit, looks for his most memorable PGA title. He followed a 64 with a 67 on Friday.
“It has been great,” MacIntyre said. “It’s challenging to back up a decent round, felt as I’ve done that all around well. The front nine I was totally basically faultless.
“Botched a couple of opportunities, yet whenever you continue to allow yourself bunches of opportunities, you will take some.”
Campillo, a three-time DP World Visit champ, terminated a 66.
“I played very strong,” he said. “Off the tee, not completely ideal, yet not terrible. The ball forever was in play. My irons were very great, and my putting was strong.”
The competition fills in as an optional occasion while top PGA Visit players contend at the mark level Wells Fargo Title in Charlotte, North Carolina.
