TIGER WOODS CLAIMS FROM KEY GOLF FIGURE: “HE’D BE THE HARDEST ONE TO CONVINCE”

To be granted a special exemption to play at the Players once more, Tiger Woods would be “the hardest one to convince.”

Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the PGA Tour, at least seems to be saying that.

On March 12, Monahan gave a press conference in advance of the 50th running of the unofficial “fifth major.”

Naturally, reporters were primarily interested in questioning Monahan about the present status of the negotiations with the Saudi PIF.

Monahan declined to elaborate further on the matter and even confronted a reporter who dared to inquire about Jon Rahm.

It also seems that opinions among PGA Tour players over whether he is the best person to guide the traditional circuit into the future are mixed.

This was due to Woods’ declaration in late 2023 that he thought his health would allow him to play at least once a month this year.

In 2024, Woods made just one start on the PGA Tour and was forced to withdraw due to an illness.

It was implied that Woods will give the Players a tune-up before the Masters next month. That Augusta National visit is now in doubt.

Woods could never qualify via the FedEx Cup these days due to his packed schedule.
