Charlie Woods’ maiden effort to qualify for a PGA Tour event ended in failure. At Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, on Thursday, the 15-year-old son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods ended 16-over 86 after hitting a 12-footer on the par-4 seventh hole. The pre-qualifying round was one of four for the Cognizant Classic, formerly known as the Honda Classic, an event on the PGA Tour held in The Palm Beaches. Through his opening six holes, the younger Woods was four strokes over par. After a terrible seventh-hole round, he recovered to make six consecutive pars until making a double bogey on the fourteenth.
Olin Browne Jr., the son of the same-named three-time PGA Tour winner, was one of Woods’ playing partners. On Thursday, he had a 2-over 72 score. The top 25 players and ties will move on to the Monday qualifying held at the Palmer Course at the Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. From there, four players will be selected to compete in the Cognizant Classic, which will be held at the PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, from February 29 to March 3.

Before his 7.39 am tee time, Woods’ day began brightly. He was the first player on the range, and he opened with a par on the first hole, but he then made back-to-back bogeys. After finishing the front nine with a 47, her winner rallied to shoot a more tidy 39 on the back nine.Charlie has gained a lot of attention recently after he and his father, an 82-time PGA Tou, played well together at the PNC Championship. He will need to look back on his day at Lost Lake as a lesson learned as he pursues a career in professional golf.

Charlie, who has a +3 handicap, was making his debut in an event sanctioned by the PGA Tour. Having competed in 16 certified events, he has two victories and two top-five finishes, placing him at number 1,301 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
