WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Trey and Casey Filter made headlines days after the fatal shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs championship game for their heroic actions in stopping the suspected shooter.The Corn Couple were outside Union Station after the shooting when they heard a crowd yelling for a man to stop as he ran past them. Instinct took over, Trey said, and he and another fan who was there fended off the suspected gunman and held him down with the group until police arrived.At the time, Trey said he didn’t know if the man he was fighting still had a gun, but Casey was hit in the leg with what the pair described as an assault weapon.Trey was recognized for his bravery with the National Heroism Award from the Uvalde Children’s Foundation. The national nonprofit was founded after the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and is dedicated to ending school violence. The Uvalde Foundation for Children said Trey’s efforts on Wednesday helped save students’ lives..
