The Buffalo Bills are looking for a backup quarterback this offseason and could see a familiar face hit the open market early. ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Although Trubisky lost the No. 2 starting job behind Kenny Pickett last season to Mason Rudolph, the timing of his release came as a bit of a surprise as he signed a two-year extension through 2023.As Trubisky heads to the open. market, one insider suggested that The The Bills could throw on the former linebacker, who remains highly regarded in the organization.

Trubisky worked as the Bills’ quarterback in 2021 after seeing limited time behind Josh Allen. Bills general manager Brandon Beane said the former Chicago Bears starter and then-No. The competition for the No. 2 overall pick was tight, but he convinced Trubisky to spend a year in the coaching position that helped Allen become a star.

“We sold him and his agent, ‘Just come here for a restart.’ Work with Josh Allen and the other quarterbacks, Jake Fromm (and) Davis Webb, (offensive coordinator) Brian Daboll and (quarterback coach) Ken Dorsey,” Beane said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL. “Come here, enjoy the new year. and just be a part of it, what we’re doing here.”.
