Breaking News: Alabama Star Set To Earn First Weekly Honor…..

The Alabama softball team had a successful opening week of the season, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record. In victories over Georgia Tech (twice), Longwood (twice) and Villanova (opener), several players stood out from the team. In addition to the Crimson Tide’s standout, freshman outfielder Lauren Johnson, sister of veteran outfielder Jenna Johnson, has excelled throughout the SEC. On Monday, he was named conference freshman and freshman of the week.

Johnson led the Tide with a .545 average in the Buzz Classic. He had six hits, four runs, two hits and a team-best three stolen bases. In her first career start against Longwood, she went 3-for-3, the first three-hit game by a Tide player since her older sister did it last season against Arkansas and in the SEC Tournament.

Perhaps his greatest defensive moment came on Feb. 10 against Georgia Tech, when he made a Top 10 diving catch on SportsCenter in the fourth quarter that sent the Tide into a frenzy.

The honor is the first of Johnson’s career and the first for a Tide player this season. In all, Alabama has taken home 25 Freshman of the Week awards in the show’s history, with current Alabama sophomore Larissa Preuitt the last to do so on May 8, 2023..

Alabama makes its 2024 home debut this weekend with a five-game Easton Bama Bash at Rhoads Stadium on Friday, February 16.
