Auburn fans are not happy with Charles Barkley right now. The most prominent alumnus of their basketball program made a confession that doesn’t sit well with The Plains..Barkley attended Neville Wednesday night during his school’s win over the in-state rival. The Tigers beat the Crimson Tide by 18. It was a statement win for a program that is a whopping 19-4.Despite the victory that Barkley predicted, the show took a more holistic look at the reality of each school.
The 60-year-old Basketball Hall of Famer wants his alma mater (he never graduated) to be realistic about Yellowhammer State status.He explained that if you were born in Alabama, you got to pick a team. You can root for Auburn University or the University of Alabama..Because we are, and I know I’m going to get in trouble because we’re like stepchildren. We’re never going to be Alabama, but we want to beat them every time we play them. We’re like Oklahoma State, UCLA, Kansas State. There is nothing wrong with that. Auburn is a great school.—
Tiger fans will never take it. Starting Wednesday, the Tide will report directly to Barkley’s comments every time they come at the Crimson Tide. He preemptively ended all future arguments about race. An Auburn fan just can’t argue that their school’s brand is on par with Alabama when one of them says the silent part out loud.The only way it could get worse is if Bo Jackson, Cam Newton, Tim Cook or Octavia Spencer said the same thing.
