I want to leave now please’ Buffalo Bills key man admit he won’t………………

The Buffalo Bills decided not to have a defensive coordinator in 2023 after parting ways with Leslie Frazier following the 2022 campaign. Play-calling would be handled by head coach Sean McDermott, and defensive line coach Eric Washington would add “assistant head coach” to his resume.

Despite suffering numerous injuries throughout the season—linebacker Matt Milano, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, and cornerback Tre’Davious White all missed significant time, and several more went down in the postseason—Buffalo’s defense finished the year ranked 14th in success rate and 11th in expected points added per play.

Teams are naturally focused on Buffalo’s staff given their recent success, which included an incredible run to rescue their season before falling just short of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round. Joe Brady, the interim offensive coordinator, was interviewed to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. The Chicago Bears interviewed Washington this week to fill the position of defensive coordinator. He complied and took the job a few days later.

Although Washington won’t be calling plays in Chicago, it’s feasible that he will have more of an impact on the defense and that this is a step up in the hierarchy given the title “coordinator” connected to his name. Consequently, McDermott has made room for himself as the defensive coordinator for the Bills. Bobby Babich, the linebacker coach for Buffalo, is one of those names that makes the most sense.

From the start of the McDermott administration in 2017, Babich has been a member of the staff. After serving as the defensive backs coach’s assistant for two seasons, he became the safeties coach and oversaw the linebackers for the final two seasons. Babich has worked as an assistant for the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers in addition to holding a few positions in college.

Babich has been a popular figure on the coaching circuit and is considered one of the best assistant coaches in the nation. He has scheduled interviews with the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, and Green Bay Packers. Ian Rapoport reports that Buffalo is interviewing former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai on Saturday, even though they haven’t yet announced an interview with Babich.
