Nick Saban, one of the greatest head coaches in history, is leaving Alabama football. When assembling his staff in Tuscaloosa, his successor, Kalen DeBoer, looked for head coaching experience and connections to the SEC.DeBoer is said to have searched the Group of Five institutions one more in the past day in an attempt to locate the perfect applicant. According to ESPN’s Chris Low and Adam Rittenberg, Maurice Linguist, the head coach of the University of Buffalo right now, is anticipated to work witDeBoer,mostlikelyasadefensive backs coach.
The 39-year-old Linguist will work alongside defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, who announced his hiring to AL.com on Tuesday morning, and defensive line coach Freddie Roach, who is apparently staying at UA.Former Baylor safety Linguist joined the Bears in 2007 as a graduate assistant. He visited elite defensive back programs at James Madison, Valdosta State, Iowa State, and Minnesota. Linguist spent one year with the Dallas Cowboys and three years at Mississippi State and Texas A&M in the SEC.After his pro season, Linguist briefly served as Michigan’s co-defensive coordinator, but in May, he accepted a head coaching position at Buffalo.
