In the upcoming offseason, the Minnesota Vikings will have to make a big decision about quarterback Kirk Cousins. Even though it would be wonderful, they can’t count on keeping him.

The massive $28 million in dead cap money that the Vikings would have to pay if Cousins walks into free agency is a significant obstacle to perhaps letting him go. Many have concluded that the team is hesitant to pursue this course because of the financial burden. However, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah hasn’t completely ruled out the prospect of splitting up with Cousins. He claimed that ownership hasn’t given him any instructions of any kind.

It’s important to note that Adofo-Mensah wants to sign Cousins to a deal that gives Minnesota some financial leeway. Although Cousins has expressed a readiness to accept a wage reduction in order to join a contender for the following season, he turned down this offer during the previous summer.

Essentially, Adofo-Mensah feels that the Vikings need to improve their squad, and that they might not be able to do so if they give Cousins a sizable chunk of their salary budget.

As the team’s main quarterback since his free agency arrival in 2018, Kirk Cousins has been a constant. Sadly, an Achilles injury ended his season, but prior to that, he was having a great year, throwing for 2,331 yards,Whether Kirk Cousins will still wear the Vikings uniform in 2024 is still up in the air. The roster and future financial freedom of the team are expected to be significantly impacted by this choice.
