Five just now 5 dead, 3 hospitalized after crash on Burnt Store Road in Outer banks Traffic 

The dump truck was driving south on Burnt Store by Christopher A. Abdill, 37, of Fort Myers and veered left, crossing the centerline, to avoid a rear-end collision with another dump truck.

The truck then drove off the west edge of the roadway and the left side of its front bumper collided with the front left portion of Voll’s car.

Abdill was not injured in the crash.

Investigators said alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in the crash.

Police closed a portion of Burnt Store for more than 7 hours.

The deaths bring the traffic fatality toll to 28 for Lee County roads in 2020.

The crash remains under investigation.

Vero Beach man was in critical condition following gunfire with deputies Friday during an eviction gone wrong, authorities say.

Michael Halberstam, 37, shot and killed Indian River County sheriff’s Deputy Terri Mashkow, Sheriff Eric Flowers said. Halberstam also shot and injured another deputy and a locksmith after his mother wanted him removed from her house, Flowers said.
