Plane Crashes in Pennsylvania Parking Lot, Injuring 5

A small plane carrying five people crashed in a parking lot near Lancaster Airport in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon, authorities said. Miraculously, all on board survived and were taken to local hospitals.

The single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed around 3 pm in Lancaster County, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The plane had just taken off from the airport and did not strike any buildings.

At least a dozen cars in the parking lot of the Brethren Village retirement community were damaged, with several engulfed in flames. Footage shared on social media showed black smoke rising from the wreckage.

The FAA has launched an investigation into the crash, which comes amid a recent spike in aviation incidents. Governor Josh Shapiro said state police were assisting local first responders.

The crash has raised concerns about air travel safety, with Google searches for “is flying safe” surging in recent weeks. A recent AP-Norc poll found that 64% of Americans consider air travel very or somewhat safe, down from 71% last year.
